Mel Gibson to Star in ”Edge of Darkness”
Mel Gibson is set to star in new movie ”Edge of Darkness.”
The 52-year-old actor will play a police investigator in the big-screen adaptation of the 1985 TV mini-series, which was broadcast on the BBC.
It is Gibson’s first starring role since 2002 movies “Signs” and “We Were Soldiers.” He then directed 2004’s “The Passion of the Christ” and “Apocalypto” in 2006.
In the movie, Gibson’s character uncovers systemic corruption while investigating the death of his activist daughter.
The “Mad Max” star has always been a fan of the mini-series and was keen to sign up when producer Graham King and director Martin Campbell approached him several months ago.
Shooting on the independently financed project begins in Boston in August. In 2006, Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) near his Californian home.
During the incident, he yelled to police officers that Jewish people were “responsible for all the wars in the world.”
He soon apologized, met with Jewish leaders, and underwent treatment for alcoholism. He is currently also serving a three-year probation term.
Orlando Bloom Meets Miranda Kerr’s Parents
Orlando Bloom went for lunch with girlfriend Miranda Kerr and her parents in the Victoria’s Secret model’s native Australia.
The Australian-born Victoria’s Secret model took the “Lord of the Rings” actor to lunch with her mother and father at Sydney’s Catalina restaurant over the weekend.
An onlooker said: “They all seemed to be at ease with each other and were getting on well. Things seem to be getting serious between Orlando and Miranda.”
Miranda, who was dressed down in a grey dress and brown boots, told a fellow diner jet-legged Orlando had been “very reclusive” since arriving in Australia last week.
She said: “I’ve had to drag him out today!”
After the meal, Orlando gave Miranda’s mother a big hug before they went their separate ways. Miranda recently described Orlando as a “sweetheart” and revealed the pair shared a mutual belief in Buddhism.
She said: “He’s a sweetheart and that’s all I’m going say. A real sweetheart. I practice Japanese Buddhism. At the heart of it all, it’s about practicing peace.”
In 2005, Orlando took his first steps towards becoming a Buddhist by taking part in an hour-long ceremony to commit himself to the faith.
He joined 60 other fledgling Buddhists at the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist movement’s headquarters at Taplow Court Mansion in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
During the ceremony, Orlando was presented with a Gohonzon - a scroll with Chinese and Sanskrit characters on it.
Amy Winehouse’s Hubby Demands 6 million
Amy Winehouse’s imprisoned husband has reportedly demanded a $6 million divorce settlement.
Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently in London’s Pentonville Prison awaiting charges of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, believes he is entitled to $500,000 for every month he has been married to the troubled singer.
After Amy allegedly told him she wanted to divorce him and start a new life with new lover Alex Haines, Blake is said to have told friends: “She wouldn’t even be alive if it wasn’t for me.”
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “At first Blake refused to believe Amy had dumped him, but his initial devastation has been replaced by rage.”
“He said Amy owes everything to him - he inspired her music and says he saved her life.”
“As a result of Amy his life will never be the same again and he wants her to compensate him. He has demanded £3 million at the very least from her £10 million fortune.”
Amy, 24, has angrily denied claims she is planning to leave Blake.
She fumed outside her North London home: “We will be together forever. We are not splitting up and I don’t have a new boyfriend.”
“I am totally in love with Blake. I couldn’t be happier. The summer is coming and I can’t wait to get my Blake back.”
Amy’s worried father Mitch flew home from a holiday in Spain yesterday (April 28, 2008), after reading about his daughter’s police caution for common assault last week.
A source revealed: “You could just hear screaming and shouting inside. Mitch was telling Amy, ‘You’ve got to f***ing pull yourself together.’”
